Distributed Learning (DL) is an internationally recognized educational model that allows teacher, student and learning content to be located in different places so that teaching and learning can occur independent of time and place. A blended program includes face-to-face opportunities with fellow learners and educators. For EPIC this means that the onsite (guided outdoor) portion of EPIC learning is facilitated by a BC certified teacher, and the same teacher supports EPIC student’s individualized home learning opportunities. Students in a blended DL are considered ‘enrolled’ by the B.C. Ministry of Education.
A blended DL is a title used for academic and funding purposes. For EPIC this means that we have the flexibility to create a community of learners with access to Ministry funding while offering a rich curriculum. It also allows us to support families who value learning, and ensures that each student has their own personal learning plan.
